In undertaking our key initiatives, REF works closely with many other like-minded community groups and local, state and commonwealth government organisations, in promoting environmental awareness and the principles of ecological sustainable development in the region.
By providing a platform for community views to be developed, the REF's vision is to ensure that development in Redcliffe and the Moreton Bay Region, is conducted in an ecologically sustainable manner and with the interests of future generations in mind.
The key strategic objectives of the REF have been developed around three core focuses: Rehabilitation, Education, and Facilitation:
- To lead and participate in environmental rehabilitation initiatives in the region
- To educate the community on matters that have or may have an adverse environmental impact in the region
- Facilitate consultation and community engagement on matters of an environmentally sensitive nature
Dear Members,
The Redcliffe Environmental Forum (REF) was formed in 2006 by a group of like-minded community members who sought enhanced protection for the important and fragile natural environment in Redcliffe, and the greater Moreton Bay region. The fast-growing nature of development in south-east Queensland means that community groups like REF are more important than ever in providing stewardship to ensure that protection of the environment is given high priority by government and the wider community. All members are volunteers and give of their time freely to assist in educating the community about environmental impacts in the region, leading and performing environmental rehabilitation initiatives and facilitating consultation with other community groups and government on matters concerning our cherished local environment. More recently, our efforts have been focused on engaging with government regarding the potential impacts that the Moreton Bay Rail Link will have on important flora and fauna in the region and conservation activities related to Hays Inlet. We can all be proud of the work done so far in pursuing the REF's vision and objectives, however frustrating processes can be at times. I am also aware though that an organisation like ours needs to grow in membership to increase our effectiveness long term. To this end, we are upgrading our website so that it becomes a centre of communication for REF and helps promote our key activities in the region. Once again, I wish to thank you all for your ongoing commitment to the REF and I look forward to working with you in 2012 and beyond.
Yours faithfully,
Peter Johnson
President
